Into the wind, the dust blows...
|
I started browsing around the forum a bit more recently, and I've noticed that there are some inactive forums. It seems as though the Design Discussion forum has become much more of a support forum rather than focused on discussion. While this is not a primary part of the forum, I think that some changes should be made. My suggestion is to convert it into a support forum and create a discussion sub-forum for those who still would like to discuss things. This would allow for a bit more focus on the discussion, which hasn't been entirely active. I also saw that the Theme Groups and Art Groups haven't been going so well. First, maybe send a PM out to the current group leaders? While this also needs to be managed by members, those who create the groups, there should be some work done by the staff. Perhaps send out PMs to members to see whom would be interested? This could be done by the services team, as they already circulate through the skins and themes forums by the members and the showcase boards. I'd also like to point out that I've seen less competitions and more discussion in the general chat forums, which I think is a good thing. I personally enjoy discussion more than those weekly competitions.

I actually use the group forums for my tutoring service but otherwise everything has been inactive for a while. Support needs to be re-introduced. As a design community we should provide our knowledge with those who want to learn instead to directing them to support. It's not a good basis for our community if we need to direct our members to another forum for help. Weekly competitions need to be changed up, we need some fresh stuff. Color competitions are nice but evidently spawn little interest. Something creative and innovative would be nice. Design discussion and support shouldn't be merged as they are two different boards and I wouldn't believe moving it out of view will help the forum either (because that doesn't exactly help the situation either). Members will use it as they please I'd suppose, it's a nice forum and I think we should use it more often. Perhaps we should merge showcasing and design discussion? We are basically discussing design when we provide feedback for a work so that could work in theory. |

I agree with this. Very good logic there. ![]()
Also agree.
I was suggesting they be split. Right now, they are merged. I don't think is working. We have a few discussion topics, but more support. Therefore, make support the main forum and make a sub-forum for actual discussion. Then we could get into so much more things, such as color theory, color combination, etc. |

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. The sub-forum for discussion would further obscure the design discussion boards but it's better than doing nothing. |

NivexonixWell, the description might not be entirely clear but that forum is also to ask for here - your discussing how to do things. While I see what you mean, I don't think it's necessary to make another subforum for discussions since they can already a)ask for gfx support and b) discuss things in the current forum. This is definitely a problem. Reasons why it's inactive is because either people don't know about it or just simply don't want to join any groups. I don't know if you've noticed, but I myself have created an 'Art Group' which is inactive atm (I had used that concept of pm-ing people to join). At the time, my computer got messed up and couldn't really get on so the group was put on a "temporary" hold which of course was more than temporary. My idea from this group was first to create a solid and active group and then have half the group create another group so it would be more....."fun". I will clear my roster and start over with a new group and get things going from there sometime very soon. If we have more groups and people see TZ members wearing signatures to show what group they're in, I'm sure they would want to participate in these different groups. Arianna While I agree that we should provide some form of support, the official boards do provide more accurate and faster support. I've seen many forums with them being "combined" but I've never really seen the problem with - people are still discussing design when they're helping each other. And I don't think it works if we mix discussion and showcase since things would just be too mixed up and not much of a benefit there. As for weekly competitions, I guess it is something we could try to do. |
